Background
I am Saurav Bista, a Researcher at the Energy Storage and Testing Research Laboratory (ESTRL) at Kathmandu University, based in Dhulikhel, Nepal. As an Electrical and Electronics Engineer specializing in Communication, I graduated at the top of my class and participated in an exchange program at IIT Hyderabad, where I developed expertise in advanced communication systems and energy technologies.
My current work at ESTRL Lab focuses on second-life EV battery storage and machine learning applications for energy optimization. My research has been published in the peer-reviewed H2Open Journal (Elsevier), applying deep learning to river-shift forecasting, and my ongoing work develops techno-economic optimization models for green hydrogen and methanol production. I'm passionate about bridging the gap between theoretical research and practical solutions that can make a real-world impact.
Journey & Vision
My journey is driven by a passion for solving real-world challenges through innovative engineering. At ESTRL Lab, I design sustainable energy storage solutions, leveraging IoT and machine learning to optimize performance. Beyond research, I contribute to community outreach, applying my skills to empower local communities in Nepal.
My work focuses on pushing the edge of technology in lithium-ion battery health estimation, communication systems, smart grids, and renewable energy. I believe real progress happens when disciplines collide — blending data, domain expertise, and deep tech to tackle global energy challenges with local relevance.
Research Interests
Energy systems modeling & optimization — techno-economic design of renewable and hybrid energy systems, green hydrogen and power-to-X pathways, and mixed-integer optimization for capacity sizing and dispatch.
